Sundays are for Blogging

Hello folks...I haven't done one of these in a long time. There's one thing on my mind today and that is poetry. I adore poetry.

My mind works in poetry
in words of stream, water clovers, and Texas dragonflies under rocks flying above ground.

My mind works in symmetry of line, beautiful geometry, of art and poet speak.

My mind works in teal mixed with brown on sand dunes broken by plastic cups, red, spilling unknown words from the last page of a thesarus.

Zephr on a
Zone of palm trees in
Zion with Latinos
on the beach.

Took me about 30 minutes to write this.

But...What does it all mean? I don't know because poetry is more about image and feeling than meaning. Go against all that poetry analyis you do or used to do in boring English classes. Get to the soul of a poem. That is true poetry dissection. Ask any poet.

Here is a poem I love...just read it recently.

From Gary Soto's poetry collection--Partly Cloudy: Poems of Love and Longing.

Getting to Know You

It was rude of me to bend down
And read what it said on your ankle,

But it was unkind
Of you to walk away.

I had to follow like a duck,
Until you stopped--you placed

Your shoe on my thigh.
I retied your loose shoelaces,

And got to read the name
On your ankle bracelet--Jenny.

That was the first time we touched--
Your shoe on my thigh,

And your little toes,
Wiggling behind the cloth

Of worn tennis shoes.
It was so cute--the little toe

Was peeking out,
Peeking at me.

Your turn...tell me your favorite line, word, or idea from any poem here or any poem you just absolutely love or secretly crush on...
